Patti was born in Oklahoma City, OK and moved to Bakersfield, CA. when she was about 4-years old. She married at a young age and began her career as a hairdresser. She painted only when she had some spare time and took art classes from Clayton Rippey of Bakersfield, Ken Auster of Laguna Beach, CA. and Betty Hay. Patti then moved to Orange County and took art classes at Orange Coast College in addition to attending various workshops. Patti found she had a love for painting people and thus she focused on life drawing. Patti is more of a realistic, contemporary artist - always feeling the need for more learning in her need for giving that extra punch in a painting. Patti and her husband moved back to Bakersfield about 5 years ago to be with her Mother and sister. She is now devoting her time to painting and being involved in the arts. Patti and her husband, John, belong to the Old West Reenactment group, the Mojave Muleskinners - who have lots of characters to paint and whom she has painted quite extensively. Patti loves to add lots of color to a face. A unique quality in which one might not find in real life or a photo. Patti is a member of Women Artists of the West. She finds great joy in getting lots of ideas, critiques and tips from her peers in addition to being shown in the National Women Artists of the West shows. Patti has won numerous awards during her career, which has always been an unexpected pleasure. "The art of portraiture is literally thousands of years old, and continually evolving. My goal as an artist is to tell a story about the subject, capturing the essentials of their personality as well as their likeness. " ~ Patti Doolittle First Patti will discuss with the client what type of portrait they are looking for; the size, the mood, and a general color sense so that the painting desired will fit comfortably in the home. Then a sitting will be scheduled at an appropriate location where reference photos are taken trying different poses. Often people will already have some photos they particularly are fond of and she can use those, but Patti likes to take a few photos for herself, if possible. The final portrait will then proceed at the artist's studio. The client will be shown the portrait and any adjustments will be made if need be. Framing may be done by the client after delivery of final portrait, unless otherwise agreed.
" I have painted my Husband's Mother and Father from really old photos when they were young and my husband treasures those." ~ Patti Doolittle
