Portrait Procedure and Commission Information:

"The art of portraiture is literally thousands of years old, and continually evolving. My goal as an artist is to tell a story about the subject, capturing the essentials of their personality as well as their likeness. " ~ Patti Doolittle

First, Patti will discuss with the client what type of portrait they are looking for;  the size, the mood, and a general color sense so that the painting desired will fit comfortably in the home. Then a sitting will be scheduled at an appropriate location where reference photos are taken trying different poses. Often people will already have some photos they are particularly  fond of and she can use those, but Patti   likes to take a few photos for herself, if possible.

Once you have agreed on the portrait commission, a simple contract will be drawn up between you and the artist, and a 50% deposit paid. The portrait is now ready to begin. In most cases, the artist will travel to your location and may stay for a day or more. Travel and accommodation costs are normally extra, though may be included within the portrait fee. In most cases two to three installments including the initial deposit are required for the commission.

The final portrait will then proceed at the artist's studio. The client will be shown the portrait and any adjustments will be made if need be. The final installment will be paid on completion and final approval.

" I have painted my Husband's Mother and Father from really old photos when they were young and my husband treasures those." ~ Patti Doolittle

PRICING - The price is based on the following criteria: the number of people or pets in the painting; how much of each subject is to be depicted; the size of the actual painting itself; and the complexity of the background setting. Travel expenses, framing costs, shipping fees and any state or city sales tax, where applicable, are additional.

  • Head and shoulder portraits start at $600 for oil on canvas  at a size of 16x20.
  • Full figure portraits start at $1000. To accommodate this figure, it will be on a larger canvas, such as 18x24 or larger, to give the full figure portrait a sense of presence.

  • Family portraits vary in prices. Starting at $1000 for 2 subjects and $500 for each additional subject at an average size of 18x24.

Please Note: Larger sizes will increase the price for individual or family portraits.
